Prevention Is Cheap, Treatment Is Not
World is facing many problems and challenges, especially in regards to health issues, diseases and disabilities. One of the most widely spread mode of infection and the most rapid one is via a vector or insect. They carry the pathogen inside and then inoculate the human with it on contact or bite, and the diseases won’t even become noticeable before the incubation period of that pathogen, thus making the treatment option bleaker and rendering the prognosis to be good. The complications that these diseases have to offer are often like threatening, for example in case of Dengue hemorrhagic fever, the thrombocytopenia that develops in the later stages can greatly reduce the prognosis and make the treatment more difficult. All of this could otherwise be avoided just by the use of few simple physical agents to keep the insects from combing in contact with the human skin. Once the habit of the insect and the vector itself is identified it is important to take preventive measure, so as to ensure the safety of community.
When it comes to protection from the insects, there are many options available like repellent lotions, creams, sprays, coils, mats etc. but they all have few side effects that can’t be ignored. The best physical barrier in this regard is long lasting insecticidal nets. They provide dual protection from the pathogen carrying vectors which is why these are superior to other mentioned modes of protection, plus there is no side effect to it. The size, color, shape, texture, material and the chemical insecticidal treatment method or status may vary from one type of mesh to another, and they are categorized on the basis of these qualities, especially chemical treatment.
Long lasting insecticidal nets can be treat with different chemical solutions but only pyrethroid insecticides are approved worldwide, which is why these are the most commonly used ones. Pyrethroid has low health risk for human or other mammals, but is excessively toxic to the insects that cause disease. It doesn’t degrade easily by exposure to sunlight or on contact with water for washing, hence the name is coined. These meshes are effective for as long as 3 years which is 3 times greater than the previous versions. They have worked effectively to reduce the risk of insect related diseases especially malaria and dengue.
